FCT Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale said officers found Arise News anchor Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu unconscious during a robbery at her Katampe home and rushed her to hospital, where she later died.

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ajao Adewale, has clarified that officers arrived promptly at the scene of the Katampe armed robbery where Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu lost her life.

Speaking on ARISE News on Wednesday, Adewale said police received a distress call and reached the Unique Apartments, Katampe, at about 3:20 a.m. “What they could see was the unconscious body of Somtochukwu Maduagwu on the floor. They picked her up and rushed her to Maitama General Hospital where doctors tried to resuscitate her through CPR, but she couldn’t make it,” he said.

According to him, Maduagwu, who lived on the third floor, jumped out of fear during the robbery. “She occupied a third-floor apartment and, out of fear, jumped down. The consequence is what we are now witnessing,” the CP explained.

Adewale said two private guards were on duty, one sustaining gunshot injuries while confronting the robbers. He dismissed claims of multiple recent estate robberies, insisting the case was a “straightforward” robbery.

The CP disclosed that a special investigation team is pursuing the perpetrators, pledging: “Justice will be served.”
