This initiative comes in response to widespread public complaints about the harassment of motorists over the use of tinted windows

The Nigeria Police Force has resumed the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) nationwide following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The development, announced Wednesday by Force PRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi, addresses public complaints about harassment over factory-fitted tinted windows.

“The Nigeria Police Force… has reactivated the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) nationwide through a secure and user-friendly digital platform available at https://possap.gov.ng,” the statement read.

The police cited security concerns and misuse of tinted vehicles in crimes such as kidnapping and robbery. “Their use hampers police visibility and impedes effective law enforcement,” Adejobi added.

The new system requires NIN, TIN, biometric capture, and background checks, with a 72-hour processing window. It features QR-coded digital permits and allows a 30-day compliance grace period beginning May 1, 2025.

Enforcement will follow, and erring officers will face sanctions. The IGP emphasized “a technologically driven and citizen-focused policing strategy.”
