During Sunday Mass at the Parish of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo, Pope Leo XIV urged the faithful to imitate Christ, the Good Samaritan, through compassion and mercy. Reflecting on the Gospel of Luke, he emphasized that the parable “constantly challenges us to think about our own lives” and warns against a complacent, unfeeling faith.
“How we look at others is what counts,” he said. “We can look and walk by, or we can look and be moved with compassion.”
He described Jesus as the true Good Samaritan who “came to heal our wounds and to pour out upon us the balm of his love and mercy.” Citing Pope Francis and St. Augustine, he reinforced God’s identity as mercy. Concluding with a call to action, Pope Leo said, “Let us look to Christ, the Good Samaritan… For He says to each of us, ‘Go and do likewise.’”
