Lagos grassroots club Tonic FC has unveiled five players signed by Portugal’s FC Esmoriz, marking its first major export of young talent.
Lagos-based non-league side, Tonic Football Club, has unveiled five players who have been signed by Portuguese side FC Esmoriz, its parent club.
Founded only six months ago, Tonic FC recently competed in the Nationwide League One (NLO) championship, narrowly missing out on promotion. The club was established with a clear focus on grassroots talent development.
Speaking during the unveiling, General Overseer of Tonic FC, Prince Dapo Ajibade, described the club as a platform for discovering fresh football talent. “Tonic FC is a veritable football factory based in the lovely Ikorodu community of Lagos State. This is just a tip of the iceberg, because we’ve many other young and talented footballers, who would soon join the professional ranks,” Ajibade said.
Among the five players heading to Portugal is 6’9 goalkeeper Ayuba Oyetola, whose towering presence has already drawn attention.
The players are expected to travel in the coming weeks to continue their professional careers.
