President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump soon to discuss allegations of a Christian genocide in Nigeria, following Trump’s threats of suspending aid and potential military action against the country.
President Bola Tinubu is set to meet with Donald Trump to address the former U.S. President’s recent accusations of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria and his subsequent threats of military intervention.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, confirmed the planned talks on Saturday via a post on X, emphasizing the shared interest of both leaders in counterterrorism efforts. The meeting, which Bwala said will happen “in the coming days,” aims to “clarify misconceptions” about the nature of terrorist attacks in Nigeria and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Trump recently escalated his rhetoric, declaring Nigeria a “country of particular concern” and stating: “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Bwala noted that the leaders will discuss and resolve “the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or all faiths.”
Trump has also reportedly instructed the Pentagon to prepare a possible plan of attack.
