…the President is “in constant communication with key government officials” and has issued directives to security chiefs regarding “emerging threats in some parts of the country.”
President Bola Tinubu continues to oversee Nigeria’s governance remotely from Europe and will return after Easter, according to the Presidency.
In a statement on Thursday, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President is “in constant communication with key government officials” and has issued directives to security chiefs regarding “emerging threats in some parts of the country.”
“The President left Paris for London at the weekend and has maintained constant communication… overseeing critical national matters,” the statement read.
Onanuga assured Nigerians that Tinubu remains committed to his duties, despite being abroad for nearly two weeks.
“The President’s absence is temporary and in line with the communicated timeframe,” he added.
Tinubu is expected back in Abuja on Monday, April 21.
The update follows criticism from opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who questioned Tinubu’s absence amid rising insecurity in Plateau and Benue.
The Presidency did not disclose the specific purpose of Tinubu’s foreign visit.
