The Presidency has accused Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, of subjudice conduct for participating in the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja, urging legal authorities to sanction him.

The allegation was made on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“I spotted Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, among the small group of protesters mobilised in Abuja by Omoyele Sowore,” Onanuga wrote, describing the demonstration as “shambolic.” He said Ejimakor’s involvement while Kanu’s treason trial was ongoing breached professional ethics.

“The prosecution has concluded its case, and it is now incumbent upon Mr. Ejimakor and the other lawyers to mount a strong defense for Kanu,” he added.

Meanwhile, security operatives on Monday fired tear gas to disperse protesters near Transcorp Hilton, arresting Ejimakor and Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel. Sowore condemned the arrests and demanded their release.

Security forces have since taken control of key parts of Abuja amid mounting calls for Kanu’s release from prolonged detention by the Department of State Services.
