President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, by one year.

President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, by one year. Originally due to end on August 31, 2025, Adeniyi’s tenure will now continue until August 2026.

The decision, announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is to enable Adeniyi to consolidate reforms and complete strategic initiatives. These include the modernisation of the Customs Service, implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” Onanuga stated. “The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”

Adeniyi assumed office in an acting capacity in June 2023 following the exit of Hameed Ali and was confirmed as CG in October 2023.
