President Tinubu told Nigerians in Saint Lucia: “Our government will not abandon you… but you must work hard,” as he pledged to address their concerns through diplomatic engagement.

President Bola Tinubu has pledged to support Nigerians living in Saint Lucia and other parts of the world through diplomatic engagement. Speaking during an interactive session in Castries on Wednesday, Tinubu urged the diaspora to remain law-abiding and hardworking, drawing from his own experience as a student in the U.S. decades ago.

“Life is about working hard, being consistent,” he said. “Our government will not abandon you. But you must work hard. It is our job to help you succeed.”

The session, organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), was chaired by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who commended the community’s contributions.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga also highlighted Tinubu’s remarks on stabilising Nigeria’s economy, noting improvements in oil revenue and foreign exchange policy.

Community leaders raised key concerns, including a $2,500 annual work permit.

The event concluded with the presentation of a portrait to Tinubu by Doris, a Nigerian medical student and artist.
