Trump’s appearance follows an invitation from FIFA president Gianni Infantino in March and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy in June.
President Donald Trump announced he will attend Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium.
“I’ll be going to the game,” Trump told reporters at the White House Tuesday after his cabinet meeting. The match will see Chelsea face either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid.
Trump’s appearance follows an invitation from FIFA president Gianni Infantino in March and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy in June.
Infantino praised the administration’s support, saying: “We have received such a big support from the government and from the president with the White House Task Force for the FIFA Club World Cup [now] and for the FIFA World Cup next year.”
The final comes as FIFA prepares for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
MetLife Stadium is expected to host eight matches, including the 2026 final, with the Club World Cup viewed as a rehearsal for next year’s expanded 48-team tournament.
