Prince William avoided questions about royal rifts, stressing optimism and leadership during his Earthshot Prize trip to Brazil.

Prince William has refused to be drawn into discussions about the Andrew Mountbatten Windsor scandal or his strained relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to Daily Mirror reporting.

During his Earthshot Prize trip to Brazil, the Prince of Wales told reporters he prefers to surround himself “with people who do good.” In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, William avoided family controversies, instead commending Earthshot Prize winners for leading change. “Change will come from backing them not by what I do,” he said.

Royal experts applauded his composure, noting his contrast with Prince Harry. “Unlike Harry, William doesn’t air the family laundry in public,” one insider said.

While addressing climate change, William urged optimism for future generations. “A world without hope and a world without positivity is a pretty depressing place,” he told CNN.

The 43-year-old royal is marking the Earthshot Prize’s fifth anniversary in Brazil, where he also met Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Indigenous leaders. Speaking at COP30 in Belem, he said, “Where Indigenous people and local communities have secured land rights, deforestation is lower, biodiversity is richer, and carbon is better stored.”
