Qatar has denied social media reports claiming it imposed new visa restrictions on Nigerians.

The Qatari government has dismissed claims circulating on social media that it imposed new visa restrictions on Nigerians.

On Tuesday, several online platforms alleged that Qatar’s Ministry of Interior had introduced tougher regulations affecting tourist and transit visas, including pending applications. The reports claimed only women and families could apply, while men travelling alone would be barred unless accompanied by relatives. They also alleged that applicants must provide return flight tickets and five-star hotel bookings before visa approvals.

However, an official of the Qatar embassy in Nigeria told TheCable on Wednesday that there was “no official information or updates” confirming such measures. The BBC also reported that Hayya, Qatar’s digital visa platform, maintained that “there has been no suspension or changes to the current procedures. If any updates are to be made in this regard, they will be announced on our official platforms.”
