Liverpool manager Arne Slot followed through on his promise by meeting Lyon attacker Rayan Cherki for transfer talks, despite the club’s ongoing efforts to sign Florian Wirtz.
The 21-year-old Cherki has enjoyed a breakout season with 12 goals, making him one of Europe’s most in-demand young talents. While Slot’s interest is serious, Cherki remains a secondary target behind Wirtz, whose £109m move from Leverkusen has yet to be finalised.
“The goal remains to sell their crown jewel outside of Germany,” The Athletic reports, as Leverkusen aim to avoid a sale to Bayern. Slot impressed Wirtz’s camp with his vision, and the midfielder is keen on a move to Anfield. Talks continue, with hopes to conclude the deal before Germany’s Nations League semi-final.
