Kylian Mbappe is set for a symbolic elevation at Real Madrid, with the club eyeing him for the iconic No. 10 shirt following Luka Modric’s departure.

Kylian Mbappe could wear Real Madrid’s iconic No. 10 jersey next season following Luka Modric’s expected departure after the FIFA Club World Cup, reports MARCA. The French striker, who joined the club this season and currently dons the No. 9 shirt, is seen as a fitting successor to the legendary Croatian midfielder.

“Real Madrid need to fill up the number ten slot and there is no better candidate than Mbappe,” the report stated. While Mbappe has not formally requested a switch, club executives reportedly believe the number 10 “would cement his status as the undisputed leader and star of the current project.”

Mbappe, who traditionally wears the No. 10 shirt for France and wore it at AS Monaco, never wore it at PSG, opting for No. 7. Meanwhile, the forward is recovering from a viral illness that has caused him to miss two Club World Cup games and reportedly lose up to five kilos, raising doubts about his fitness for the RB Salzburg match.
