Undersea cable cuts in the Red Sea disrupted internet access in Asia and the Middle East, with reports of slower speeds across several countries.

Undersea cable cuts in the Red Sea have disrupted internet connectivity across parts of Asia and the Middle East, experts confirmed on Sunday. The cause of the outages remains unclear, though concerns persist over possible targeting amid Houthi rebel threats in the region.

Microsoft said Middle East users “may experience increased latency due to undersea fiber cuts in the Red Sea,” adding that global traffic outside the region was unaffected.

NetBlocks reported disruptions in multiple countries, including India and Pakistan, citing failures affecting the SMW4 and IMEWE cable systems near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In the UAE, subscribers on Du and Etisalat complained of slow internet speeds. Authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE have yet to officially comment.
