First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on the Super Falcons to aim for World Cup glory, following their WAFCON victory and presidential honours.
Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged the Super Falcons to set their sights on winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup following their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking at a presidential reception in Abuja, she said, “I told Mr. President this morning that you need to win the World Cup, and he thought I was too ambitious—and Ajibade just seconded that, and that is really possible.”
Describing the team as role models, she added, “Let this be a stepping stone to even greater achievement. The future of women’s football is bright, and you are leading the charge.”
President Tinubu, in his remarks, conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger on the players and technical crew, alongside three-bedroom apartments and cash rewards of $100,000 per player and $50,000 per coach.
The Super Falcons defeated hosts Morocco 3–2 to win their 10th WAFCON title last Saturday.
