They also become the first privately-owned club to win the league since Ocean Boys of Bayelsa in 2006.
Remo Stars have been crowned champions of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes on Sunday in Ikenne, Ogun State. The Sky Blue Stars secured their historic triumph with three matches remaining, finishing with an unassailable 10-point lead over second-placed Rivers United. Founded in 2010 by businessman Kunle Soname, this marks the club’s first major trophy. The title was all but confirmed after Kano Pillars defeated Rivers United 2-0 on Friday, setting the stage for Remo’s coronation.
Despite a resilient Tornadoes defence, Olamilekan Adedayo’s 84th-minute strike ensured Remo Stars became the first South-West club to win the NPFL since Julius Berger FC in 2000. They also emulated Ocean Boys (2006) as the only privately-owned team to lift the trophy. Coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s side overcame early struggles to secure the decisive win, sparking jubilation among fans. The victory cements Remo’s rise as a Nigerian football powerhouse and ends a 15-year South-West title drought in the league.
