Reno Omokri has urged Nigeria to adjust its work schedule to allow Muslims observe Friday prayers without affecting productivity.
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has called for changes to Nigeria’s work schedule, arguing that the current system is unfair to Muslims.
In a Facebook video, Omokri said Sunday is already observed as a non-working day for Christians, but Muslims must work full Fridays despite its religious importance.
“I don’t think it is fair for the Muslim Ummah for us to have Friday as a working day in Nigeria,” he said, noting that before colonialism, Fridays were recognised as a day of rest.
He proposed starting work earlier from Monday to Thursday and closing by noon on Fridays to allow Muslims attend Jumu’ah prayers. According to him, the lost hours on Friday would be recovered during the week, ensuring national productivity remains unaffected.
“This way, there would be a more equitable balance of our workday lives in Nigeria,” Omokri added.
The proposal has sparked debate on balancing religious observances with workplace efficiency.
