The House of Representatives Committee on Internal Security has raised alarm over threats by terrorists to bomb the National Assembly complex.

The House of Representatives Committee on Internal Security has disclosed that terrorists have issued threats to bomb the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

Chairman of the committee, Garba Muhammad, revealed this during a public hearing on a bill to establish a Legislative Security Directorate to strengthen parliamentary safety and service conditions for sergeants-at-arms and other personnel.

Muhammad said the complex has witnessed several breaches, including theft, fake identity cards, vandalism, and infiltration by unverified visitors.

“We have received threats from terrorists to bomb the National Assembly complex and threats from protesters to lock up the premises,” he said.

He warned that without proper security structures, legislative activities could be disrupted, affecting representation, budgeting, and democracy itself.

Muhammad added that the proposed bill would align Nigeria’s parliamentary security with global standards and urged state assemblies to adopt similar measures.
