Reverend Father Anthony Udogu, Parish Priest of St Francis of Assisi in Awka, died suddenly after collapsing during a tennis game at St Patrick’s Cathedral premises.
Tragedy struck in Awka, Anambra State, as Reverend Father Anthony Udogu of the Catholic Diocese of Awka collapsed and died while playing lawn tennis at St Patrick’s Cathedral premises. The sudden death was confirmed in an official statement by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev Fr Charles Ndubuisi.
“With faith in the resurrection of the Lord, the Catholic Diocese of Awka announces the demise of our brother priest, Rev Fr Anthony Udogu, whose sudden death occurred in the early hours of today,” the statement read.
Fr Udogu was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but efforts to revive him failed. He was the Parish Priest of St Francis of Assisi, Awka, and Dean of Awka Deanery II, respected for his leadership and commitment to community development.
The Diocese expressed condolences and promised to announce burial details soon.
“May the soul of Rev Fr Anthony Nnaemeka Udogu rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
