A San Diego minister says MAGA teachings contradict the message of Jesus, citing several Bible verses in a viral TikTok video.

Reverend Dr Caleb J Lines, a senior minister at the University Christian Church in San Diego, has argued that MAGA views are “incompatible” with the teachings of Jesus, according to a report from PINKNEWS. Lines, an ordained minister in both the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ, made the comments in a TikTok video captioned “MAGA vs Jesus – Round 12,” where he addressed issues such as abortion, “cancel culture,” toxic masculinity, fake news and gender.

With more than 294,000 followers on the platform, Lines said MAGA supporters often claim biblical backing for their positions. On abortion, he stated that “MAGA says: ‘The Bible is against abortion’” but countered by quoting scripture: “God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being,” arguing that the Bible defined life as beginning at “first breath, not conception,” while adding that the text was not a “scientific book.”

Citing Proverbs 12.1, he said: “Whoever hates correction is stupid,” stressing that people should stop actions that harm others. He also referenced Galatians 3.28 to argue against gender-focused rhetoric: “There is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Lines concluded that “the teachings of MAGA are simply incompatible with the teachings of Jesus Christ.” The video has drawn more than 34,000 likes, with commenters writing: “I need you to preach at a MAGA rally” and “This is why true Christians aren’t MAGA.”
