Fubara’s media aide, Jerry Omatsogunwa, said that residents were eager for his comeback “to continue the good work he was doing.”

With one month left before the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State expires, allies of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara say they are counting down to his expected return on September 18, 2025.

Fubara’s media aide, Jerry Omatsogunwa, told The PUNCH that residents were eager for his comeback “to continue the good work he was doing.”

“Expectations for the governor’s return are very high,” Omatsogunwa said, citing major projects such as the Port Harcourt Ring Road, Omoku-Elele Road, and Trans Kalabari Road. “The expectation is that these projects will be revived immediately so they don’t suffer setbacks.”

President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers in March while declaring a state of emergency over the political crisis with former Governor Nyesom Wike. Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed Sole Administrator.

Ibas’s media aide, Hector Igbikiowubo, said his principal “remained committed to exiting office” but stressed the importance of completing projects initiated under the emergency administration.
