Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has alleged that the ongoing conflict between suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike stems from a dispute over “money sharing.”
Amaechi made the claim in an interview with DW Africa on Saturday, questioning the motives behind the political crisis. He challenged both leaders to publicly disclose the root of their disagreement.
“The fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money. If not, what is the quarrel?” Amaechi stated. “Nigerians don’t dislike corruption anymore. I’ve not seen anybody on the street querying what the problem is. Can both of them speak to the public and tell us what the problem is?”
Criticism of Tinubu’s Emergency Rule
The former governor also condemned President Bola Tinubu’s imposition of emergency rule in Rivers State, describing it as unconstitutional. He urged residents to resist the move through protests.
Escalation of Political Tensions
The feud between Fubara and Wike reached a boiling point during last week’s controversial local government elections. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), led by retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, conducted the polls amid legal disputes.
Prior to the elections, conflicting court rulings emerged—one supporting the exercise and another opposing it. Major political parties, including factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), boycotted the polls, citing procedural irregularities.
Amaechi’s remarks add to growing scrutiny over the political instability in Rivers State, with calls for transparency and constitutional adherence intensifying.
