Rivers PDP says Governor Fubara’s rumored defection to APC is his personal choice, stressing peace and development should remain the state’s priority.

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed concerns over reports suggesting that Governor Siminalayi Fubara may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting on Wednesday, the state PDP chairman, Dr. Robinson Ewor, said the governor’s political choices remain his personal decision. “Whatever decision the governor takes, is personal,” he stated, adding that he had not been informed of any such plan.

Speculations grew after Governor Fubara was seen accompanying APC Governors’ Forum chairman, Senator Hope Uzodimma, to President Bola Tinubu’s office on Monday. Critics also noted that in his September 18 statewide broadcast, the governor did not acknowledge the PDP’s role in opposing the six-month emergency rule imposed on Rivers earlier in March.

Dr. Ewor further described the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Etteh Ibas (retd) as sole administrator during the emergency as “unconstitutional and an act of illegality,” while urging all actors in the state’s political crisis to uphold peace for Rivers’ development.
