Rivers: Wike reveals conditions for peace

“No amount of going to television to abuse anybody will bring peace, because we have always said that those who thrive in crisis are always happy when there is a crisis.”

Former Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike declared that peace in the state requires sincere involvement of all stakeholders, including National Assembly members. Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, Wike criticized traditional rulers for failing to mediate the crisis, stating, “No amount of going to television to abuse anybody will bring peace.” He defended the emergency rule as necessary to prevent anarchy, challenging elders to disclose their reconciliation efforts.

Wike condemned recent nude protests by women demanding leaders’ reinstatement, calling such actions ineffective blackmail. “What can bring peace is for you to humble yourself,” he said, emphasizing inclusive talks. The FCT minister revealed receiving some mediators but stressed that excluding critical stakeholders undermines genuine resolution.
