Riyadh 2025: Team Nigeria clinches gold in wrestling, women’s 4x100m relay

Team Nigeria claimed two gold medals in wrestling and the women’s 4x100m relay at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, boosting its overall medal tally.

Team Nigeria increased its gold medal haul at the ongoing 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh after securing victories in the 53kg freestyle wrestling and the women’s 4x100m relay.

According to a statement by Kola Daniel, adviser to the National Sports Commission Director-General, Christiana Ogunsanya dominated her bout, defeating Uzbekistan’s Shokhida Akhmedova 11-1 to take gold, while the quartet of Bada Toyin, Ezechukwu Miracle, Omokwe Maria, and Nweke Cynthia raced to gold in 44.27 seconds.

Nigeria also earned two silver and three bronze medals across athletics and wrestling events, with athletes including Kure Adams, Badmus Atanda, and Patience George contributing to the tally.

Commending the team, Bukola Olapade said, “I am truly proud of both of you… President Bola Tinubu will continue to expose Nigerian athletes to the best international competitions… for podium success,” adding that the NSC remains committed to sustaining Nigeria’s strong sporting momentum.

Team Nigeria now has eight gold, ten silver, and seven bronze medals, with more expected in para-athletics and para-powerlifting.
