Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal thrashed Armenia 5-0 in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, extending his career tally to 942 goals for club and country.

Fabrizio Romano noted on X: “140 international goals, 942 career goals… and counting for Cristiano Ronaldo.” The 40-year-old striker’s brace kept Portugal on course for the 2026 World Cup while intensifying global attention on his pursuit of the unprecedented 1,000-goal mark.

Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was observed for Jota, who earned 49 caps for Portugal, with tributes displayed around the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan.

João Félix opened the scoring in the 10th minute, before Ronaldo converted Pedro Neto’s cross. João Cancelo added a third, celebrating with Jota’s trademark video game gesture. Ronaldo struck again shortly after halftime, smashing in a long-range effort, while Félix sealed the victory with his second goal.

Ronaldo’s performance reaffirmed his longevity and record-breaking career.
