Russia launches massive drone and missile attack just days after Ukraine calls for new peace talks.
Russia launched a major overnight drone and missile attack on Ukraine on Monday, targeting Kyiv and several regions just days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered a new round of peace talks. Ukraine’s air force reported that 426 drones and 24 missiles were fired, with at least 23 drones striking their targets.
In Kyiv, one person was killed and seven others were injured, including a 12-year-old child. Fires broke out in a kindergarten, a shop, and residential buildings. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said four districts were hit and warned that “shelters themselves are no longer entirely safe.”
Western Ukraine was also targeted, with Ivano-Frankivsk suffering its heaviest strike of the war, leaving four injured. Kharkiv faced multiple hits and fires as well.
President Zelensky condemned the assault as an “assault on humanity” and urged “real pressure on Russia.” Kyiv has proposed new peace talks next week after previous negotiations stalled over a month ago in Istanbul.
