“As brothers in arms, we are ready to assist, particularly with the provision of the full range of weapons required by the Armed Forces of Nigeria”.
The Russian government has pledged to support Nigeria’s fight against terrorism by sharing new strategies developed through global operations, a statement said Monday.
Lt.-Gen. Andrei Averianov, a Russian envoy, made the offer during a visit to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, in Abuja. Averianov said Russia, currently conducting operations in 39 countries, has gained critical experience in combating asymmetric threats such as Boko Haram and Al-Qaeda.
“As brothers in arms, we are ready to assist, particularly with the provision of the full range of weapons required by the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Averianov said.
Gen. Musa welcomed the delegation on behalf of President Tinubu, noting the long-standing relationship between both nations and requesting further cooperation in training, intelligence sharing, and equipment maintenance.
He also appealed for Russian support in maintaining unserviceable platforms and enhancing surveillance capabilities.
Russia’s delegation expressed eagerness to contribute to a safer environment for future generations in Nigeria.
