Russian passenger plane crashes with 49 onboard, no survivors

The Russian Emergencies Ministry stated that the plane lost contact just before landing, and there had been no communication with the crew since.

A passenger aircraft carrying 49 people, including five children, has crashed in Russia’s Far East, with no survivors reported, according to Russian media and emergency officials.

The An-24 aircraft, operated by Angara Airlines, disappeared from radar near the town of Tynda, Amur region, on Thursday while approaching its destination close to the Chinese border.

A burning fuselage believed to be the aircraft was later found by a helicopter team, with rescue services dispatched to the remote crash site.

Although initial reports varied, regional governor Vasily Orlov confirmed that all available emergency forces were deployed for search and rescue operations.

Local media outlet RT said the aircraft had 49 people onboard — 43 passengers and six crew members — and confirmed no survivors.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing.
