“In the interim, we are pleased to inform you that an associate professor from the Faculty of Sciences has been appointed as the acting dean. He is set to assume his duties immediately, starting Monday, May 26, 2025.”

Lagos State University (LASU) has suspended Professor Olatunji Abanikanda, Dean of the School of Agriculture at its Epe Campus, following allegations of inhumane treatment of final-year students. The decision, according to the LASU Students’ Union, was made to ensure a conflict-free investigation into the students’ claims.

“We are pleased to announce that, in light of recent developments, the Dean, Professor Abanikanda, has been placed on compulsory leave, effective immediately,” the union said. “This decision is intended to facilitate a thorough investigation, led by a specially constituted fact-finding committee, without any conflicts of interest.” An associate professor from the Faculty of Sciences has been named acting dean, effective Monday, May 26, 2025.

The suspension follows a viral audio where Abanikanda allegedly threatened students after forcing them to stand in the rain. In a recording, he said, “I am a Sango worshipper,” and vowed to punish those who offended him through spiritual means.
