Scientist claims to have finally solved mystery of Bermuda Triangle…

A University of Southampton oceanographer explains what he believes to be behind the Bermuda Triangle’s mysterious ship and plane disappearances.

For decades, the Bermuda Triangle — a region between Florida, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda — has been linked to vanishing ships and aircraft, sparking theories of UFOs and supernatural forces.

Now, Dr Simon Boxall, an oceanographer from the University of Southampton, believes he has found the real explanation: rogue waves.

Also known as extreme storm waves, rogue waves can tower up to 100 feet (30 metres), rising unpredictably and striking from multiple directions. Dr Boxall explained that such massive waves could snap a ship in two or sink it “in a matter of two or three minutes.”

The mystery dates back to incidents such as the disappearance of the USS Cyclops in 1918, which vanished with 306 crew members without sending a distress call. Dr Boxall and colleagues simulated the ship’s structure in experiments and found it could easily be overwhelmed by rogue waves due to its design.

However, not all scientists agree there is a mystery at all. The U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) insists shipwreck and crash rates in the Bermuda Triangle are “within normal ranges” compared to other oceans.
