The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is under scrutiny once again after the Senate Committee on Public Accounts revealed a N210 trillion discrepancy in its 2017–2023 audited statements.

Chairman of the committee, Sen. Aliyu Wadada, issued a one-week ultimatum for NNPCL to account for the funds. Chief Financial Officer Adedapo Segun claimed the amount reflects “cash calls” from joint venture partners.

Transparency International’s Auwal Rafsanjani slammed successive presidents, accusing them of using NNPCL as a personal “cash cow.”

“This has been happening since 1999… There is so much waste in the organisation. The revenue is not accounted for,” he said.

Energy analyst Barr. Ameh Madaki warned that the scandal may fizzle out like past probes. “It is clear the current scandal will once again fade into the stratosphere,” he told Daily Post.

Public concern mounts as Nigerians await accountability from the oil giant long accused of secrecy and misuse of funds.
