Senator Seriake Dickson has criticized President Bola Tinubu for failing to address the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State during his Democracy Day speech. Speaking at the National Assembly, the Bayelsa West lawmaker accused the presidency of supporting “military rule by proxy” while preaching democratic ideals.

“It is troubling that on Democracy Day — a day that should symbolise freedom, civil rule, and justice — such communications were read without challenge,” Dickson said.

He alleged that his attempt to raise a constitutional point of order during a plenary was ignored by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“The president missed a golden opportunity today to strengthen democracy by restoring constitutional rule in Rivers State,” he added.

Dismissing claims of political bias, Dickson stated, “This is about the people of Rivers State, their democratic rights, and the sanctity of our constitution.”

He warned that the Rivers situation, if unchecked, could endanger democracy nationwide.
