Disbarred New York lawyer and Edo senator Neda Imasuen set to join APC, citing LP disarray.

Edo South senator Neda Bernards Imasuen, previously linked to a $25 million fraud scheme in the U.S., will officially defect from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 12.

Imasuen, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, made the announcement in Benin City while marking two years in office.

“I will be leaving the Labour Party to the APC as the current disarray in the LP will not help me achieve my aim for my people,” he said.

His defection comes months after Peoples Gazette revealed court documents linking him to a widespread U.S. bank fraud. The FBI said he “arranged the transactions underlying the substantive bank fraud charges,” in a $25 million scam targeting 33 banks.

Imasuen was disbarred in New York for professional misconduct.

He said his move to APC would “align Edo South with the federal government and bring development to our people.”

His switch makes him the latest opposition figure to join the ruling party.
