SERAP has called on Nigeria’s 36 governors and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to disclose how they spent an estimated N14 trillion in fuel subsidy savings since 2023 or risk legal action.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Nigeria’s 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to account for the estimated N14 trillion in fuel subsidy savings received since 2023.
In a statement on Sunday signed by its Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP demanded that the leaders disclose details of projects executed with the funds, their locations, implementation status, and completion reports.
“We’ve urged Nigeria’s 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike to urgently disclose the spending details of the estimated N14trn fuel subsidy savings,” the statement read.
SERAP noted that despite increased FAAC allocations, citizens have not enjoyed improved public services, stressing that transparency would “help to avoid a morally repugnant result of double jeopardy on poor and vulnerable Nigerians.”
