Public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has warned Nigerians abroad not to believe Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s recent remarks about the country’s progress, calling them deceptive and detached from reality.

Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has warned Nigerians in the diaspora against believing Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s recent comments about the state of the nation, describing them as misleading and untrue.

In a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, Shehu accused Akpabio of “deceiving Nigerians abroad” with claims that Nigeria was on a path of progress. “139 million Nigerians are facing visible hunger, 60 million jobless youth, and over 30 million children suffering from severe malnutrition,” he wrote. “Nigeria’s debt stock is now at ₦170 trillion and still counting. Come back home at your own risk.”

Citing Bible verses such as Psalm 10:7 and Ephesians 5:6, Shehu warned against “empty political words.” He added, “Our leaders have made lying a trade and deception a permanent culture.”

He urged Nigerians abroad not to be swayed by political propaganda that ignores the country’s harsh economic realities.
