Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in London on Monday to accompany the body of late former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria
Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in London on Monday to accompany the body of late former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive.
Shettima was joined by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, and was received in the UK by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum. The vice president’s office confirmed the visit via an official post on X.
President Tinubu had formally announced Buhari’s death on Sunday, directing Shettima to lead the delegation to repatriate the former leader’s remains.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, after previously ruling as military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985.
As part of the nation’s mourning, President Tinubu has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-staff.
“Shettima arrived in London on Monday morning on the directive of President Bola Tinubu,” the statement read.
