Court documents allege she registered a competing entity, the United States of Biafra–Biafra Republic Government in Exile–Defacto Corp, in Georgia on January 5.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Simon Ekpa, leader of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), has filed a $1.7 million lawsuit in a U.S. federal court against Ngozie Orabueze and others over an alleged attempt to hijack the separatist group.
Filed on May 29 by U.S. attorney Arman Dabiri, the lawsuit accuses Orabueze of launching a parallel faction, misappropriating BRGIE’s assets and membership database, and continuing to use its legal and lobbying services after her departure.
Court documents allege she registered a competing entity, the United States of Biafra–Biafra Republic Government in Exile–Defacto Corp, in Georgia on January 5.
“She declared herself head of state and cancelled existing contracts unilaterally,” Mr. Dabiri stated.
Ekpa, currently on trial for terrorism-related charges in Finland, claims Orabueze’s actions caused $500,000 in losses and seeks punitive damages.
The Nigerian government has been urged to request Ekpa’s extradition.
The case is ongoing at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
