Utah Gov. Spencer Cox condemned social media as a “cancer” after announcing the arrest of Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) on Friday urged Americans to step away from social media, describing it as a “cancer on our society,” shortly after announcing the arrest of the suspected gunman in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

At a press conference, Cox identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the alleged shooter in Wednesday’s attack at Utah Valley University. He then pivoted to a broader warning about online culture, stressing the dangers of violent content spreading across platforms.

“We are not wired as human beings — biologically, historically — we have not evolved in a way that we are capable of processing those types of violent imagery,” Cox said, citing the viral video of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska’s fatal stabbing in North Carolina.

“Social media is a cancer on our society right now,” he added. “Log off, turn off, touch grass, hug a family member, go out and do good.”
