The move follows a row with Washington over Juba’s refusal to admit a Congolese man deported from the US, which led to the Trump administration threatening to revoke all US visas held by South Sudanese citizens.
President Salva Kiir has dismissed Foreign Minister Ramadan Mohamed, replacing him with Deputy Foreign Minister Monday Simaya Kumba, according to state media reports. The abrupt change follows a diplomatic dispute with the United States over the deportation of a Congolese national.
The individual, deported from the US, was initially denied entry upon arrival in Juba, prompting the US to threaten revoking all visas held by South Sudanese citizens. South Sudan later allowed the man entry, but the incident strained relations between the two countries.
