Sowore says Jonathan promised to discuss Nnamdi Kanu’s detention with President Tinubu “as soon as possible,” describing it as a matter that demands justice and national healing.
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, says former President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to meet President Bola Tinubu over the continued detention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore disclosed this on Friday via his X handle after meeting with Jonathan in Abuja.
“Earlier today in Abuja, I met with former President @GEJonathan to discuss the continued incarceration of Mazi @NnamdiKanu,” Sowore wrote. “President Jonathan agreed that there is an urgent and compelling need to address this matter decisively and justly.”
He added that Jonathan promised to meet Tinubu “as soon as possible.”
Sowore noted that the former president joins a growing list of Nigerians, including Atiku Abubakar, Femi Falana (SAN), and Shehu Sani, who have called for Kanu’s release.
Kanu, who has been detained since 2021, faces terrorism and treason charges despite several unimplemented court orders granting his release.
