Sowore has demanded the immediate release of Anambra native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, criticising the Soludo administration for allegedly persecuting traditional practitioners.

Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the continued detention of Anambra native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, calling for his immediate release, according to a report from SAHARA REPORTERS.

Sowore, in a post on X, criticised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for allegedly targeting traditional worshippers while attending Christian crusades “where fake miracles were performed.” He raised concerns that Nwangwu has been held for months without explanation, alongside two other practitioners. “The Anambra State Government has reportedly held him in custody since early February 2025,” he wrote.

According to the report, Nwangwu was invited to a meeting with Deputy Governor Gilbert Onyekachukwu Ibezim but was detained upon arrival. A video cited showed him being interrogated and later forced into a police van. During questioning, he stated he had stopped preparing charms known as “Okeite” following the state’s clampdown on native doctors.

The report noted that a previous investigation by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) accused the state government of unlawfully detaining more than 40 traditional worshippers in an illegal facility called the State Militias’ Lion House in Awka.

Intersociety argued that the prolonged detentions violate constitutional limits and insisted the detainees, including Nwangwu, should be released unconditionally.
