Sowore vowed to defy police threats and lead Lagos protests over demolitions as AAC accused the state police of stifling citizens’ rights.
Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed to enter Lagos to protest ongoing demolitions in Oworonshoki despite warnings from the state’s Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh.
Speaking after securing bail in Abuja alongside Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and 12 others arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest, Sowore said, “They can warn themselves; they can’t warn me. You can’t warn me about my rights.”
He described his detention as “illegal and inhumane,” blaming the Bola Tinubu administration and “illegal” Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Meanwhile, the Lagos chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) condemned Jimoh’s remarks as an attempt to intimidate citizens and justify government oppression. “The Commissioner’s claim that victims are criminals is baseless and wicked,” AAC said, demanding a retraction and respect for citizens’ rights.
