Tensions rose as members of the Take It Back Movement and allies issued a two-hour ultimatum for his release
Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, arrived at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday with a travel bag containing essentials, suggesting he was prepared for detention. He was accompanied by his lawyers, Barristers A.K. Musa and Marshal Abubakar, and a crowd of chanting supporters. Sowore was invited by the IGP’s Monitoring Unit over a petition.
Tensions rose as members of the Take It Back Movement and allies issued a two-hour ultimatum for his release. “If they refuse to release Sowore… then they have to arrest all of us,” said Princess Mikky of #NUDE NIGERIA.
Rex Elanu of Take It Back described the invitation as “a vendetta by the IGP.” Sowore had earlier rejected the invitation, calling it “defective.” Initial claims of “inciting disturbance” were later replaced with allegations of “forgery and criminal defamation,” though no legal documents or petitioner identity were disclosed. Critics say the case highlights ongoing harassment of dissenting voices in Nigeria.
