Spain advanced to their first Davis Cup final since 2019 after Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez sealed a 2-1 victory over Germany in a decisive doubles match, setting up a clash with defending champions Italy.
Spain reached their first Davis Cup final since 2019 by defeating Germany 2-1 in Bologna, with Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez winning a tense doubles decider 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 after Pablo Carreno Busta had earlier given the team the lead by rallying from 6-1 down in a tie-break. Germany equalized through Alexander Zverev, who beat Jaume Munar 7-6 (7/2), 7-6 (7/5), before the Spaniards took control in the final set of the doubles.
Playing without injured world number one Carlos Alcaraz, Spain captain David Ferrer said, “I’m really proud of my players, they had to fight to get this far,” adding, “We believe that without Carlos we can do a great week. Now we are in the Final.” With Italy also missing key stars Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, Ferrer said his team was ready to battle for the title on Sunday.
