SPIE’s hybrid solar-diesel plant reduces emissions by over 1,200 kg monthly, setting a new standard in off-grid energy solutions.

In February 2025, SPIE Global Services Energy commissioned a 15kWp Off-Grid Hybrid Solar Diesel Energy Plant at the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (PHRC), marking a significant step in sustainable energy innovation. The hybrid system blends solar power with a diesel generator, ensuring uninterrupted energy supply in off-grid locations.

With an average monthly production of 950 kWh, the solar component meets 55% of site energy needs and reduces carbon emissions by over 1,200 kg of CO₂ equivalent monthly. “This reduction in carbon footprint translates into cleaner air, a healthier environment, and long-term sustainability.”

Beyond environmental benefits, the project offers financial advantages. “By reducing diesel consumption, operational expenses are significantly lowered,” the company stated. The system also enhances energy reliability in regions with unstable grid access.

SPIE described the initiative as “a step toward a cleaner, more resilient world,” emphasizing its commitment to offering renewable energy solutions for governments, communities, and businesses.
