Roughly 1 million illegal immigrants have exited the U.S. since January.

Roughly 1 million illegal immigrants have exited the U.S. since January, marking a reversal of immigration trends under the Biden administration, according to a study by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). Using Census Bureau data, CIS found the foreign-born population dropped by 957,000, with 600,000 fewer in the labor force.

“It looks like there’s been a Trump effect on the number of illegal immigrants in the country, based on the best data that we have,” said Steven A. Camarota, the study’s lead author.

President Trump has ramped up deportation efforts, removed restrictions on immigration enforcement, and pushed for self-deportation.

Business sectors, including agriculture, have voiced concern over workforce shortages. Yet, Camarota argued, “This is good news, particularly for less-educated Americans who are likely to see a rise in wages.”

The study found a 1 million-person decline in noncitizens from Latin America, aligning with tighter border control and reduced arrivals.
