Sunday Igboho has revisited the 2021 DSS raid on his home, recounting betrayal, detention, and loss, while appealing to the Olowo of Owo for support to return to Nigeria.

Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has again spoken about the July 2021 midnight raid on his Ibadan residence by security operatives, including the Department of State Services (DSS).

Speaking during a visit to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, Igboho alleged the operation was meant to kill him. “When my house was invaded, they wanted to kill me but failed… They fired guns at me very well, but the prayers of you my fathers on me were answered,” he said.

He recalled that a trusted associate betrayed him by revealing details about his cat, which operatives killed during the raid. “They destroyed everywhere in the house and killed one of my brothers alongside one other person,” he added. The invasion sparked nationwide outrage, with Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka and legal icon Afe Babalola describing it as unconstitutional and unjustifiable.

After fleeing Nigeria, Igboho was arrested in Benin Republic, where he spent nearly two years in detention until his release in 2023. He revealed his mother died while praying for his freedom. German authorities later granted him a protection passport, though he remains unable to return home.

At the Olowo’s palace, Igboho appealed for support to return to Nigeria, saying, “This is about five years since I’ve been chased from here. Tinubu is your son, you can convince him to free me.” The Olowo praised Igboho’s resilience and urged him and his supporters to remain law-abiding.
