Eric Chelle has named a 23-man Super Eagles squad blending experience and youth as Nigeria prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
Coach Eric Chelle has announced Nigeria’s final 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, with captain William Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi among the key names.
The Super Eagles will first host Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on 6 September before facing South Africa in Bloemfontein on 9 September in Matchday 7 and 8 of the CAF campaign.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali retains his position alongside Amas Obasogie of Tanzania’s Singida Blackstars and Greece-based Adeleye Adebayo, who returns after a long absence. Defenders Calvin Bassey, Olaoluwa Aina, and Bright Osayi-Samuel join Ekong, bringing Premier League and European experience.
Midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Raphael Onyedika provide balance in the middle, while attacking options include Samuel Chukwueze, Simon Moses, Cyriel Dessers, and Tolu Arokodare.
Standout performers Felix Agu and Benjamin Fredericks, rewarded for their displays in European leagues and the June friendly against Russia, were also included.
Unveiling the squad, Chelle said, “We have selected players who understand the weight of representing Nigeria on the international stage. Every member of this squad has proven their quality and commitment, and we are ready to challenge Rwanda and South Africa with determination and tactical discipline.”
Nigeria, currently pushing to consolidate their position in Group H, will be aiming to secure maximum points in both fixtures as they target a return to the World Cup.
